Hey There
I'm here to support you
Hi there, my name is Dr. Ryan Rickert. I have been working in the field of psychotherapy for over 20 years. I specialize in several areas of psychotherapeutic treatment that address specific concerns as well as the ambiguity where answers seem to remain barren. An exploration of meaning, purpose, and understanding in life; movement toward the inner core, the psyche or soul. We are all individuals following our own path. I conduct psychotherapy as your witness and provide collaboration and guidance on your behalf. I have no fixed ideas about what is right or wrong. Our sessions are a safe space to talk and explore your experience as an individual in both the outer and inner worlds. We are all the authors of our own being.
Depression
In the modern Western world, life brings stressors and distraction. Most of us have experienced some form of depression including myself. Some of the common threads of depression can look like a sense of feeling lost and confused, hopeless; lost in a state of despair and uncertainty. It's as if the flame of life sinks into feeling stuck. Feelings of hopelessness, a sense of darkness, and inertia can grow out of such an experience. I will join with you in your suffering as we find some light in the darkness on your journey. As a matter of fact, when you're ready and look close enough, perhaps you will find value and meaning in depression and suffering on the other side of the "Night Sea Journey".
Anxiety
I work with anxiety and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder utilizing techniques such as EMDR (Eye Movement and Desensitization), and CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), all of which involve a form of exposure to distressing events and a restructuring of thought and feeling connected to such events. Anxiety is part of the human condition, and one may feel a sense of doom or free floating anxiety, a state of being in which the experience is difficult to understand. I work with this by exploring some of the broader questions such as meaning and purpose by listening and witnessing your experience as well as providing feedback.
Dream Analysis
I studied at the Carl Jung Study Center for two years which involved an intense study of Carl Jung's Collected Works. In addition to the intensive study of these works, I did my own dream analysis with an analyst for years. This involves a process of finding value and meaning apart from tradition, societal expectations, and daily distractions in a quest to understand how things actually are. Having a look at these factors and experiences can give life to meaning. Dream work is a form of communication with the soul and can bring us closer to the "perils of the soul" which ultimately is likely to have the effect of developing wholeness and a deeper understanding of one's true self. I welcome and encourage anyone to try dream work as an option in psychotherapy if they are interested in a deeper understanding of their internal experience in life.
Sex Therapy
I received my doctorate in human sexuality and became certified with the American Association of Sexuality Educators and Therapists (AASECT) as a sex therapist in 2018. I worked for years in private practice specializing in sex therapy. Some of the presenting struggles are specific issues such as erectile dysfunction and/or problems with orgasmic function. I've found that what is most effective with such problems and many others related to sexuality is not only instructional and educational, but also an evaluation of the underlying psychological elements that contribute to such problems. Therefore, sex therapy is often an interweaving of psychotherapy with a focus on sexuality which may generalize to other areas in need of psychotherapeutic treatment.

A little About me
I was born and raised in the Bay Area in Northern California. I am an avid surfer and fisherman. I love the wilderness and nature in all forms. Out of my love for dogs I have a rescue dog who is a Shepard mix breed. I've had the great experience of love at first sight with my wife.
